"The guidebook I
have been yearning for!"
The
perfect Guidebook – for stately-home-addicts and
Britain-loving travelers like me! Cheryl and
John Bolen have gathered all the information you
need to enjoy many of England’s finest and most
historic country houses. With this book in hand,
you can visit on your own without hiring a car
or relying on a group bus tour.
I wish I’d had it years ago. The Bolen’s
information would have saved me time, ££s, some
peculiar detours, and a fender-bender. Luckily,
I am only part way through my goal of visiting
every country house I can, and many in this book
are still on my list.
In addition to details on routes and choices of
trains, busses, taxis, and walking for arrival
at each estate, the Bolens provide excellent and
concise information on the house, grounds, and
the family who belong there.
The only thing better than reading this book and
following its directions would have been to
accompany the Bolens as they gathered the
information!

"Makes it easy for visitors and locals alike"
Houses
were chosen for their regularly being open to
the public and accessible by rail and a short
cab, bus ride or stroll from station to the
property. Bolen also includes necessary Info on
options for purchasing various visitor and
travel passes, cautionary do’s and don’ts and
insider info such as options for taxis (fare
prices included) or bus/walking to the property,
opening times and admission prices and website
addresses.
Bolen has put her 30 years of historical
research in England to good use - and shares it
all in this volume. Lucky us!
